Teach me citation practice. My field and style: [FIELD_AND_STYLE]. Examples of text I have written with sources: [EXAMPLE_TEXT].

Explain when to cite: direct quotes, paraphrases, data, ideas and figures. Review my examples: mark where citation is missing, where paraphrasing stays too close to the original and where common knowledge needs no citation. Show a poor paraphrase and a good one using an invented sentence.

Return a table of issues and fixes, a checklist for self-review, and a note that my institution's rules decide what is acceptable. Do not rewrite my text to hide close copying; show how to rewrite from understanding.

Add a worked example. Original: The company's profits fell by 12 percent in 2022 because of rising costs. Poor paraphrase: Profits dropped 12 percent in 2022 due to higher costs. Better: Rising costs reduced profits that year, with a drop of 12 percent (Author, 2023). Explain why the better version still needs a citation. Provide a self-review checklist and a reminder to keep notes with source details at the time of reading.

Add a short exercise: take one paragraph of your own and mark each sentence as your idea, common knowledge or from a source, then check that sources are cited.
