Design an antagonist who believes they are doing the right thing. My protagonist and goal: [PROTAGONIST_GOAL]. Story world and stakes: [WORLD_STAKES]. Tone (dark, comic, realistic): [TONE]. Give the antagonist a clear goal that conflicts with the protagonist's, a wound or experience that explains the belief, a principle they will not violate, a line they will cross, and a resource advantage over the hero. Write their view of the story in a first-person paragraph that makes the reader half agree. List five scenes where the antagonist's actions are logical from their view and create escalating problems. Provide two ways the antagonist could be reasoned with and two ways that would fail. Avoid cartoonish evil, and avoid making the antagonist's reasons depend on a disability or mental illness. Add a short exercise: write the antagonist's most persuasive speech in 120 words, then list the facts that the speech leaves out. Provide three moments where the antagonist shows a small kindness that does not excuse their actions, and warn me against redeeming them too easily. Finish with the question that the final confrontation should force both characters to answer.
