Cover Letter Edit Rubric
Score a draft and decide what to cut.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Score my cover letter draft like a hiring manager with limited time. Job posting: [PASTE_POSTING]. My draft: [PASTE_COVER_LETTER]. Score each criterion from 1 to 5, quote the words that justify the score, and give one specific fix: 1. Opening: gets to the point and makes the reader want to continue. 2. Relevance: connects my experience to the top three needs in the posting. 3. Evidence: specific results and examples instead of adjectives. 4. Company insight: shows real knowledge, not flattery. 5. Voice: sounds like a person; no clichés or filler. 6. Structure and length: easy to scan; under one page. 7. Tone: confident without arrogance. 8. Call to action and close. 9. Accuracy and polish: names, titles, dates, grammar. Return the scorecard, a list of sentences to delete, a revised version of the weakest paragraph only (keep my voice), and a version of the whole letter shortened by 25 percent. Do not add claims I did not make. Finish with a 60-second checklist to run before sending, including the company name and the role title.
