Content and Microcopy Comprehension Test
Check if people understand your words.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Plan a comprehension test for interface text or content. The text to test: [TEXT_UNDER_TEST]. Audience: [AUDIENCE]. Key meanings it must convey: [KEY_MEANINGS]. Choose methods: highlighter test (participants mark confusing words and helpful words), cloze test (remove every fifth word and see whether readers can fill them), paraphrase test (ask them to explain it in their own words), and task-based test. For my text give the instructions, 5 to 8 questions, and a scoring guide (for example, 60 percent or more correct cloze answers suggests adequate comprehension for independent reading, to be treated as a guide). Produce a recording sheet, an analysis table of problem words and phrases with suggested rewrites, a plain-language checklist, and a plan to retest after changes. Include participants with different reading levels and non-native speakers. Use only my text; do not invent results. Provide the instructions for each method, the number of participants suggested for a quick test (five to eight per audience group), and the table for summarizing results with problem terms, the proportion of participants affected, and the revised wording.
