Thematic Analysis of Interview Transcripts
Code and interpret qualitative data.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Perform a thematic analysis. Transcripts or excerpts: [TRANSCRIPTS]. Research questions: [RESEARCH_QUESTIONS]. Follow stages: familiarization (summarize each transcript in 3 sentences); initial coding (line-by-line codes with definitions); theme development (group codes into candidate themes); theme review (check against the data and the whole set); naming and defining themes; and reporting. Produce a codebook table: Code | Definition | Example quote | Participants (count) and a theme table: Theme | Description | Supporting codes | Participants | Quotes | Relevance to the research question. Note contradictory cases and silences. Describe how you handle researcher bias (reflexivity notes, a second coder for a sample, disconfirming evidence). Provide a short report (300 words) answering each research question with confidence statements. Never invent quotes; mark thin evidence. Check participant privacy in reporting. Give the first-pass code list for the excerpts I provided as a worked example, then the theme map with a one-line definition per theme, and flag any theme supported by fewer than three participants as tentative.
