Gmail Newsletter Reading and Inbox Separation Plan
Separate reading from work mail.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Help me separate newsletters and updates from work mail in Gmail. The newsletters and notifications I receive, with how often and whether I read them: [SOURCES]. My work mail volume and the senders who matter most: [WORK_MAIL_PROFILE]. Time I can give to reading each week: [READING_TIME]. For each source decide: keep in the inbox, label and skip the inbox, or unsubscribe. Count the sources in each group and show the time arithmetic: 14 newsletters at 5 minutes each is 70 minutes a week, over my 45-minute budget, so cut or batch. Design the system: a few labels (Read later, Reference, Receipts), filters that apply a label and skip the inbox for the sources I choose, written as criteria in words (sender address or list identifier, subject words), and one reading session per week. Warn about filters that could hide important mail. Test by finding or sending three sample messages and confirming they land where intended [VERIFY menu names and filter options]. For unknown or suspicious senders, report and delete rather than clicking unsubscribe. Add a monthly check of the Read later label with a rule for what to delete.
