Chart Alt Text and Data Table Alternatives
Make charts usable without sight.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Write accessible alternatives for my charts. For each chart give me: [CHART_DESCRIPTIONS_OR_DATA]. Where they will appear: [MEDIUM]. Audience: [AUDIENCE]. For each chart produce: 1. Short alt text of 15 to 25 words that names the chart type, the variables, and the key finding, without starting "Image of". 2. A long description of 60 to 120 words in reading order: the title, axes and units, the overall pattern, the highest and lowest values with numbers, notable changes, and the takeaway. 3. A data table version in text, with units, rounded sensibly, and totals where they matter. 4. A note on what is lost in the text version and how to convey it (for example trend direction). 5. Guidance on when to put the description in the page text instead of the alt attribute. Rules: describe the finding, not the decoration; do not repeat the caption word for word; give numbers; keep decorative charts empty-alt. Add a checklist for testing with a screen reader and for checking that interactive charts are keyboard accessible [VERIFY against the standard your organization follows].
