Chart Honesty Audit for a Report
Check axes, scales and emphasis.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Audit the charts in my report. Description of each chart: type, axes, scale start, labels, colours and the message claimed: [CHART_DESCRIPTIONS]. Source data summaries: [DATA_SUMMARIES]. Audience: [AUDIENCE]. Check truncated axes, inconsistent scales between charts, cherry-picked periods, area or bubble distortion, dual axes, missing units, missing sources, and colour choices that mislead. Test whether the stated message follows from the data. Return a table with Chart, Problem, Effect on reader and Fix, a score from 1 to 10 for honesty and clarity, and a rewritten caption for each chart that states the data and period. Also provide a short checklist for new charts: start the axis at a stated point, show the period, include the unit, cite the source, and test the chart with someone who has not seen the data. Suggest a style guide entry for each rule. Also say which chart you would redesign first and why, and give a short before and after description of the redesign. Note whether a table would serve the reader better than a chart in any case, and whether the colours work for readers with colour vision deficiency.
