Mixed Methods Research Plan
Combine qualitative and quantitative approaches.

Plan a mixed-methods study. Research question: [QUESTION]. Existing data and access: [DATA_ACCESS]. Timeline: [TIMELINE]. Propose a sequence (for example exploratory interviews, then a survey, then analytics) with the purpose of each phase, sample sizes with reasoning, instruments, analysis methods, and how the results will be integrated. Create a table showing which question each method answers. Describe risks (inconsistent definitions across methods) and how to align them. Provide a reporting outline that shows the strands together and notes limits. Do not claim statistical power without the numbers. Add a template for a joint display table that shows quantitative and qualitative results side by side, and a decision rule for what to do when the strands disagree. Include a timeline with dependencies, a budget outline using placeholders, and a final report outline of one page for stakeholders. Add a worked integration example for an invented question (why do trial users stop after the first week): phase one, eight interviews to find reasons; phase two, a survey of 300 trial users testing the five most common reasons; phase three, analytics on the actions taken before dropping out. Show a joint display table with one reason in each column group (interview quote, survey percentage, analytics pattern) and the combined conclusion with its limits. Label it an illustration. Add a decision rule for what to do when strands disagree, a sample size justification that explains the purpose of the survey (estimating prevalence, not proving causation), and a timeline in weeks with dependencies, in which the survey instrument cannot be finalised until interviews are coded. End with a list of the three claims the final report will be allowed to make, the evidence needed for each, and one claim it must not make because the design cannot support it. Also add a short list of the questions that quantitative data answers best and those that qualitative data answers best, with examples from my project.
