Keyword Research Without Paid Tools

Decision tree

Find and prioritize keyword opportunities using free sources and reasoning.

The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.

Find and prioritize keywords using only free methods. My site, topic, and audience: [SITE_TOPIC_AUDIENCE]. Products or services I offer: [OFFERS]. Competitors: [COMPETITORS]. Time I have: [TIME].

Work through this decision tree and give me concrete steps and tables:
1. Seed ideas: list questions customers ask (support emails, sales calls, reviews, forums). Do I have such data? If yes, start there. If no, interview three customers using the questions I provide.
2. Expand: use search engine autocomplete, related searches, and people-also-ask boxes; give a method to record them systematically in a spreadsheet.
3. Check demand: use free tools such as search console data (impressions), trends comparisons, and ad platform planners (note their limits). Do not invent search volumes; label estimates as relative.
4. Check intent: search the term and classify the first-page results (guides, product pages, tools, videos). IF the results do not match what I can offer THEN skip.
5. Check competition: can a site like mine compete? Look at the type of sites that rank and the depth of content.
6. Prioritize: a score from business value, relevance, and difficulty.

Deliver a keyword table template (keyword, source, intent, relative demand, competition notes, business value, priority score, target page), the top 20 candidate keyword ideas for my topic, and a 6-week plan. Be explicit about uncertainty.
