Back-Translation Check

Spot meaning drift by translating back.

Added October 15, 2026. Written with AI assistance and checked for clarity and placeholders; not reviewed by a lawyer, accountant, clinician or other professional. How these prompts are made

The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.

Run a back-translation check. Original text in [ORIGINAL_LANGUAGE]: [ORIGINAL_TEXT]. Translation in [TARGET_LANGUAGE]: [TRANSLATION].

Translate the translation back into the original language as literally as sensible, without looking at the original. Then compare the two versions segment by segment in a table: Original | Back-translation | Difference | Is it a translation problem or a natural variation? Highlight differences in meaning, certainty, tone, and numbers. Rank the five most important issues and propose revisions to the translation. Explain that back-translation has limits and cannot judge naturalness in the target language, so a native reviewer is recommended for important texts.

Add an extra step in which I list the three sentences that matter most (for example those with obligations or warnings) and you check them more carefully with alternative back-translations. Provide a short scale for rating the impact of each difference and a summary sentence I can send to the translator explaining the issues without blame.
