Narrative Poem or Ballad Planner
Tell a story in verse.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Plan a narrative poem. Story in brief: [STORY]. Form (ballad, blank verse, free verse, rhymed couplets): [FORM]. Length: [LENGTH]. Outline the story in stanzas or sections with the event, the image to dwell on, and the musical device to use there (refrain, repetition, change of metre). Draft an opening stanza and a refrain of your own. Address challenges: summarising versus dramatising, keeping rhyme natural, and pacing. Provide a table of beats mapped to stanzas. Add a read-aloud test and a list of five edits to make a story clearer in verse. Do not imitate any single existing poem. Add a list of devices for compressing time and space in verse, such as stanza breaks as cuts and refrains as time markers, and a checklist for revision that tests clarity of events without the verse form. Provide a plan for performing the poem aloud, noting the pauses and the stanza that changes the pace.
