Git Commit Message Writer From a Diff or Change List
Write clear Git commit messages from your changes, with a short subject line, a body that explains why, and a check against common style rules.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Write a Git commit message for my change. What I changed (paste the diff, or a list of files and what each change does): [CHANGE_SUMMARY]. Why I made the change: [REASON]. Related ticket or issue: [TICKET_ID]. My team's commit style, if any (conventional commits, imperative mood, length limits): [TEAM_STYLE].
Produce three options:
1. A short commit with a subject only, 50 characters or fewer, in the imperative mood ("Add", "Fix", "Remove").
2. A standard commit with a subject and a body of 2 to 5 lines that explains what changed and why (not how, since the diff shows how), wrapped at 72 characters.
3. A detailed commit for a risky change: subject, body, notes on testing done, and a line about breaking changes or migration steps if any.
Then give me a checklist table with columns Rule, Passed?, Fix: subject length, mood, no full stop, body explains why, ticket referenced, one logical change per commit. If my change looks like it contains several unrelated changes, tell me how to split it into separate commits and suggest a message for each.
Use only facts I gave. Do not invent test results, ticket numbers or reasons. If the reason is missing, ask me for it. Do not run any commands; if you suggest git commands such as splitting commits, show them for me to review first.
