Confluence Standard Operating Procedure Page Template and Example
Write procedures that can be followed under pressure.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
[VERIFY] is an editorial flag, not a blank to fill. Wherever the prompt shows [VERIFY], check that item against a reliable source before you use it.
Write an SOP page for Confluence. Procedure and who performs it: [PROCEDURE_AND_ROLE]. Steps as they are done today: [CURRENT_STEPS]. Risks and checks: [RISKS_AND_CHECKS]. Systems used: [SYSTEMS].
Structure: purpose, scope, roles, before you start, steps (numbered, one action each, naming the system or screen, with the expected result and what to do if it differs), checks, records to keep, exceptions, related pages, and a version table with owner and review date. Each step starts with a verb, and any risky or irreversible step has a visible stop point. Mark gaps [ASK THE PERFORMER], and where a feature depends on plan or configuration tag it [VERIFY]. Add a checklist version for use on the day and a link to training material and the owner's contact.
Include a full example of about 150 words for an invented procedure, 'Process a supplier invoice': purpose, roles, before you start, eight numbered steps with expected results, checks, exceptions (an invoice over the approval limit goes to the finance lead), records to keep and a version table. Show a worked rewrite of a poor step ('Sort out the payment') into three clear steps.
Explain how to test the SOP: a performer who is not the author follows it with a timer and records where they hesitate; the owner reviews it every six months and after any incident, recording date, reviewer and changes. Use short steps, plain language and numbered lists for accessibility.
