Reconcile Power BI numbers with source reports. Report figures by month and category: [REPORT_FIGURES]. Source system figures: [SOURCE_FIGURES]. Known differences in definitions or timing: [KNOWN_DIFFERENCES]. Tolerance: [TOLERANCE]. Set out the method first: which period, which source report, which filters, which tolerance. Compare each figure and calculate the difference and percentage difference (difference divided by source). Make three groups: within tolerance, explained differences, and unexplained differences, with counts and the sum of absolute differences for each, and show the totals row and that line items add up. Group causes: timing, definition, filtering, missing data or rounding. Never explain a difference away without evidence; mark guesses as hypotheses. For unexplained items list the checks in order of cheapness. Return a table (Item, Report value, Source value, Difference, Percent, Cause, Action), a sign-off template with owner, date, tolerance and outcome, a monthly recurring check for the first quarter and then quarterly, and a one-page summary for the report owner.

Invented reconciliation for six months. Report revenue (in thousands): 410, 395, 430, 452, 448, 470. Finance: 410, 395, 428, 452, 441, 470. Differences: 0, 0, +2, 0, +7, 0. Percentages: March 0.47, May 1.59. Tolerance 0.5 percent: March within, May outside. Cause investigated for May: a refund of 7 posted in June in finance but in May in the report. Result: one explained timing difference, none unexplained. Sign-off by the data owner recorded with the date. Rule going forward: any month with a difference above tolerance needs a written cause before the report is shared.
