Children's Data and Age Gating Review

Decision tree

Check handling of minors' data.

The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.

Review how my service handles children's data using a decision tree. This is a screening aid, not legal advice. Service description and audience: [SERVICE_AND_AUDIENCE]. Regions served: [REGIONS]. Data collected and how: [DATA_COLLECTED]. Current age checks or parental consent steps: [AGE_CONTROLS].

Walk through these nodes and tell me where I land:
NODE 1: Is the service directed at children, or likely to be used by them? If directed at children, treat the stricter rules as applicable. If general, go on.
NODE 2: Do I collect any personal data from users who may be under the age that applies in each region [VERIFY ages and rules by region]?
NODE 3: Is the age check effective, or just a checkbox? Describe options in order of strength and burden (self-declaration, parent email, verification service).
NODE 4: Is parental consent needed? If so, how is it obtained and recorded?
NODE 5: Do I use children's data for advertising, profiling, or tracking? If so, flag as high risk.
NODE 6: Are default settings private and protective? Is there a clear, age-appropriate privacy notice?
NODE 7: Can a parent review and delete data easily?

Output a table of gaps with severity and fixes, a short child-friendly privacy notice draft of 100 words, and a list of questions for a privacy lawyer.

Treat all output as a draft for discussion, not legal advice. Have a qualified lawyer or privacy specialist who knows [JURISDICTION] verify it before you rely on it.
