Reply to a Colleague Who Missed a Deadline
Follow up without blame.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Write a reply to a colleague who missed a deadline that affects my work. Context: [CONTEXT]. What was agreed and when: [ORIGINAL_AGREEMENT]. Impact on me or the team: [IMPACT]. What the colleague wrote: [PASTE_THEIR_MESSAGE]. The new date I need: [NEW_DATE].
Write three versions:
1. A light check-in for the first miss (60 words): state the facts, ask for a new date, and offer help.
2. A direct but respectful message for a repeated miss (90 words): describe the pattern with dates, explain the impact, ask what is getting in the way, propose a concrete new plan with checkpoints.
3. An escalation heads-up to a manager or project lead (100 words): neutral, factual, and focused on the project risk and what decision is needed, not on blame. Include advice to speak to the colleague first.
Use observation, impact, and request, avoid sarcasm and absolutes ("you always"), and include a closing that preserves goodwill. Add a template for a short written agreement on revised dates and an inventory of questions that uncover causes (unclear requirements, conflicting priorities, missing information). Do not make assumptions about the colleague's reasons. Mark missing facts as [ADD DETAIL].
