Write a letter saying a debt does not belong to me. Details I will supply: collector [COLLECTOR_NAME], reference [COLLECTOR_REFERENCE], amount [AMOUNT], why it is not mine [WHY_NOT_MINE], identity documents I can share safely [ID_DOCUMENTS].

The letter should say that I dispute the debt, explain briefly, ask for proof tying it to me, and ask them to stop collection activity until proof is provided; it should not send sensitive IDs unnecessarily.

Documents that usually matter: the collector's letter with its reference, any proof I never held the account such as addresses and dates I did not live at, my identity details that differ from theirs, and a note of any identity theft concern. Reasonable asks: a halt to collection while they check, copies of the application and signature, deletion from my credit file if they cannot show the debt is mine. The usual pushback: "Our records show you opened this account." Answer by asking for the application, the signature and the address used, and state clearly that you dispute the debt.

Their answer is in [THEIR_RESPONSE]. For the disputing a debt that is not mine, summarize their reply in a table of claims, gaps, and opinions, then write my reply addressing each point in order. Supply the finished letter and a 60-word cover note, next an if-ignored ladder (police report if identity theft is suspected, credit report check, regulator complaint), plus a list of exhibits (my records, identity theft report if relevant), plus a record-keeping tip. Mail it by certified or registered post with a return receipt, and store the tracking page once it shows delivered.

Pause for any blank fact before you write and mark claims that need a document behind them. Draft the letter from me personally as a layperson, never as an attorney, and use no made-up titles or licence numbers. Avoid reciting rules from memory, including time limits; work from [JURISDICTION] and [RELEVANT_LAW_OR_POLICY_IF_KNOWN], and add a line telling me to verify the exact law with a professional or my local consumer agency. Sound reasonable, factual and resolute, and free of abuse, and set any date from [DEADLINE] and no other. Treat this as writing help and not legal advice, so give me no odds of success.
