Write a letter asking a collector to prove a debt they say I owe. Details I will supply: collector [COLLECTOR_NAME], their reference [COLLECTOR_REFERENCE], amount claimed [AMOUNT_CLAIMED], original creditor claimed [ORIGINAL_CREDITOR], date of their first contact [FIRST_CONTACT_DATE], what I remember [MY_RECORDS].

The letter needs to state I am not admitting the debt, ask for the name of the original creditor, an account history, proof they own or act for the debt, and itemization of fees and interest, and say I will keep a record of all contacts.

Gather before drafting: the collector's first letter and date, any account details, my own records of the debt, and deadlines in the notice. What I can realistically request: proof of the debt: original creditor, amount, account history and the right to collect, plus a pause on collection until sent. The usual pushback: "The debt is valid and due." Answer by saying a statement is not validation and asking for documents.

First build an exhibit table for the debt validation request letter (number, item, date, purpose), add a gaps column, and then write the letter and refer to the exhibits. Provide the finished letter along with a 60-word cover note, next an if-ignored ladder (a second request by tracked mail, then a complaint to the debt collection regulator, then free debt advice), then a proof checklist (their first letter, my account records, a log of calls), then one records tip. Mail the letter by a tracked route with a return receipt, and keep the tracking page once it shows delivered.

Regard this as a drafting request and not a request for legal advice, so promise nothing about the result. Compose the letter as myself, not on anyone else's behalf, never as a lawyer or law firm, and skip any letterhead I did not give you. Pause for any blank fact before you write and warn me about unsupported statements. Invent no statute or deadline, and quote none you were not given; lean only on [JURISDICTION] and [RELEVANT_LAW_OR_POLICY_IF_KNOWN], and remind me to check the exact law with a qualified professional or a local consumer agency. Keep the tone steady, factual and respectful, with nothing hostile or exaggerated, and put the date from [DEADLINE] on any request.

Re: Reference 55-8821
I received your letter dated 3 March claiming 780.00. I do not recognise this debt. Please send proof of the original creditor, the original agreement, an account history with dates and amounts, and your authority to collect. Please pause collection until you have done so. I am writing within the period stated on your letter.
Regards, Pablo Ortiz Please send your reply to the address below and quote the reference. This letter is not an admission that the debt is mine, and I reserve the right to dispute any part of it once I have seen the documents.
Cover note: do not admit the debt. Keep proof of mailing.
