Financial Report Quality Checklist
Check reports before they leave your desk.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
[VERIFY] is an editorial flag, not a blank to fill. Wherever the prompt shows [VERIFY], check that item against a reliable source before you use it.
Check a financial report before sending it. The report text and tables: [REPORT_TEXT]. Its audience: [AUDIENCE]. Source data and period: [SOURCE_AND_PERIOD]. Review against a checklist and mark pass, fail, or unclear with the evidence: period and dates correct; totals add up (recompute and show); subtotals agree with details; percentages recomputed; comparatives match last report; labels clear; units and currency stated; no unexplained abbreviations; consistent definitions; notes on unusual items; sources cited; charts match tables; headline message supported by the numbers; sensitive information appropriately handled. Return a table: Check | Result | Evidence | Fix. List the three most serious issues first. Then rewrite the summary paragraph if the numbers do not support it. Add a version-control reminder (date, preparer, reviewer) and a sign-off line. Do not alter any figure; list differences for me to confirm [VERIFY]. Recompute every subtotal and percentage and list each as matched or mismatched with both values. Give an overall result of 'safe to send', 'send after fixes', or 'do not send', with the reason. Treat all figures and conclusions as estimates built only from the inputs I gave. This is not accounting, tax, legal or investment advice. Have a qualified accountant or financial adviser who knows [JURISDICTION] verify the output before you rely on it.
