Word Heading and Style Cleanup Plan for an Inconsistent Document
Make headings, fonts and spacing consistent with styles.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Plan a cleanup of heading and style consistency in a Word document. The outline of headings as they appear, with a note of how each looks (size, bold, numbering): [HEADING_OUTLINE]. The fonts, sizes and spacing found in body text, lists and tables: [FORMATTING_FOUND]. The standard we want, or a description of the house style: [TARGET_STYLE]. Structure first, appearance second, and no change to the wording. List the inconsistencies: headings formatted by hand rather than with heading styles, skipped levels, different capitalisation rules, mixed numbering, body text in several fonts or sizes, lists typed with dashes and numbers instead of list styles, and extra blank paragraphs used for spacing. Count each type and show the share of headings affected. Propose a heading hierarchy of at most three levels with names rewritten consistently, and the style settings to apply. Return a table of problems (Where, Count, Fix, Effort), the corrected heading list, and a step-by-step procedure: show formatting marks, reset direct formatting, apply styles top to bottom, rebuild lists, update the table of contents, then check with the Navigation pane [VERIFY menu names]. Work on a copy with Track Changes on if others will review, and finish with a checklist.
