Hardcoded Numbers and Hidden Assumptions Finder
Locate constants buried in formulas.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Find numbers buried inside my formulas and assumptions that nobody can see. Spreadsheet app: [SPREADSHEET_APP]. Purpose of the workbook: [PURPOSE]. Formulas to review (paste a list of cell addresses with their formulas): [PASTE_FORMULAS]. Description of inputs and assumptions sheet, if any: [ASSUMPTIONS_SHEET]. Return tables: 1. Hardcode register: Cell | Formula | Hardcoded value | What it probably represents (tax rate, growth rate, conversion, threshold, date) | Risk if it changes | Where it should live (named input cell) | Suggested label. 2. Hidden assumptions: Assumption | Where it appears | How it affects results | Evidence or source | Owner. 3. Magic text: formulas that depend on exact text labels or sheet names. 4. Constants that repeat in many formulas, with the count of occurrences. 5. Hardcoded overrides: values typed over formulas in a formula column. Then produce a rewrite plan: an inputs sheet layout (name, value, unit, source, last reviewed), rewritten versions of the five riskiest formulas using references to those inputs, and a step to test that the results are unchanged. Explain how to find hardcodes myself (go-to special, formula view, search for digits). Do not guess a source for any number.

Hardcode register (excerpt) Cell | Formula | Value | Probably | Risk | Move to D12 | =C12*1.075 | 1.075 | Sales tax | High, rate changes | Inputs!B3 "Sales tax rate" F20 | =E20*0.82 | 0.82 | Conversion rate | High | Inputs!B4 H5 | =G5-1500 | 1500 | Monthly fixed fee | Medium | Inputs!B5 Overrides: Sheet Forecast, cells E8:E10 contain typed numbers in a formula column. Repeated constants: 1.075 appears in 14 formulas. Inputs layout: Name | Value | Unit | Source | Last reviewed. Rewrite D12 as =C12*(1+Inputs!B3). Test: totals unchanged after the rewrite. No source guessed; "Source" is blank until you confirm.
