Plan the sampling and analysis for a survey. Population: [POPULATION]. How we can reach people: [REACH]. Expected response rate: [RESPONSE_RATE]. Questions and key comparisons: [QUESTIONS_AND_COMPARISONS]. Produce: a sampling approach (census, random sample, quota, convenience) with pros and cons and the biases of each; a sample-size estimate for a proportion (n = z squared x p(1-p) / e squared; for 95 percent confidence, 50 percent proportion, and 5 percent margin, n is about 385; adjust for the population and expected response rate, with arithmetic for my numbers); a plan for nonresponse (reminders, weighting caution); data cleaning rules (speeders, duplicates, straight-lining); and an analysis plan (descriptives, cross-tabs, confidence intervals, tests for differences only if planned in advance, qualitative coding of open text). Add a bias risk table and guidance on how to describe limits honestly in the report. Recommend consulting a statistician for complex designs. Give a short worked example of the sample-size formula with my numbers, adjust for the expected response rate (n invited = n needed / response rate), and list the checks that would trigger weighting or caution in the report.
