Google Sheets Weekly CSV Import and Cleaning Routine
Create a repeatable path from an export to a clean tab.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
[VERIFY] is an editorial flag, not a blank to fill. Wherever the prompt shows [VERIFY], check that item against a reliable source before you use it.
Plan a weekly import routine for Google Sheets. The export file name, columns and a few invented rows: [EXPORT_SAMPLE]. Cleaning needed: [CLEANING_NEEDS]. Reports that use the clean data: [REPORTS].
Define three tabs: raw (never edited), clean (formulas) and report. Explain how to paste or import the file without overwriting formulas [VERIFY options]. Formulas with examples on one row: =TRIM(A2) to remove spaces, =PROPER(TRIM(A2)) for names (' acme ltd ' becomes 'Acme Ltd'), =VALUE(SUBSTITUTE(B2,",","")) for numbers with thousands separators, =DATEVALUE(C2) for text dates [VERIFY locale behaviour], and =REGEXREPLACE(D2,"[^0-9]","") for phone digits.
Checks: row counts in raw and clean are equal; blanks in required columns are zero; the sum of amounts matches in both. Weekly checklist with timings that add up to 25 minutes, an import log (row count, who did it), a rule for archiving old weeks, instructions for when a column is added to the export, and a test with a deliberately messy file. Tag version-dependent features [VERIFY].
