Google Sheets Apps Script Request Specification
Write a clear brief for a script that automates a sheet task.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
[VERIFY] is an editorial flag, not a blank to fill. Wherever the prompt shows [VERIFY], check that item against a reliable source before you use it.
Write a specification for a Google Apps Script that automates a task in Google Sheets, for a developer who has not seen the sheet. Task now done by hand: [TASK]. Sheet names, columns and sample rows: [STRUCTURE_AND_SAMPLES]. Trigger (button, menu, time-based, on form submit, on edit): [TRIGGER]. What it may and may not do (send email, delete rows, access other files): [LIMITS]. Cover the goal, inputs, step-by-step logic in plain words, outputs, error handling, and a log row written for each action (time, who, what, result). State the permissions the script will ask for and why [VERIFY], the limits on running time and daily quotas [VERIFY], and a rollback plan. Add a table of test cases with expected results and a sign-off section with the names and dates of the reviewer and tester. Add a review checklist that does not need me to read every line: what the code deletes, what it sends, where it writes, and which accounts it uses. I should only run scripts that I or a trusted colleague have reviewed, test on a copy first, and follow my organisation's policy on scripts and data.
