Annual Budget Reforecast Workbook

Few shot

Update the year's budget with actuals.

The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.

Build a workbook to reforecast the year using actuals to date. Original budget by line and month: [ORIGINAL_BUDGET]. Actuals so far: [ACTUALS_TO_DATE]. Known changes since budgeting: [KNOWN_CHANGES]. Constraints: [CONSTRAINTS]. Spreadsheet app: [SPREADSHEET_APP].

Model the method on this example.
Line: Marketing. Original annual budget 120,000 (10,000 a month). Actuals for January to April: 52,000. Remaining original budget for May to December = 80,000. Reforecast = actuals to date 52,000 + revised remainder 72,000 (a planned cut of 8,000 in the second half) = 124,000, which is 4,000 above the original budget. Bridge: original 120,000, plus 12,000 overspent in the first four months relative to plan (52,000 minus 40,000), minus 8,000 planned cut, equals 124,000.

Design: tabs for the original budget (locked), actuals, reforecast, variance, and bridge. Reforecast formula options per line: carry original, use run-rate (average of actuals to date), or manual override with a reason column. Add a scenario switch, a summary by category, a chart of budget versus reforecast, and an approval checklist. Provide sample data with expected results. Keep the original budget unchanged and document each override. Ask which lines changed most.
