Month-End Expense Reconciliation
Make sure recorded expenses match the bank.

Reconcile my recorded expenses with bank and card statements. Ledger entries for the month: [LEDGER_ENTRIES]. Statement lines for the month: [STATEMENT_LINES]. Opening and closing balance per bank: [BALANCES]. Step 0: check that the opening balances agree with last month's closing. If they do not, stop and ask me for the missing data. Step 1: match each statement line to a ledger entry by amount, date, and description. Step 2: sort the results into three groups with a count and a total amount for each: 'safe to record now', 'needs a receipt' (statement lines with no ledger entry, with a question for each), and 'needs investigation' (ledger entries with no statement line: unpresented payments, errors, or timing). Step 3: reconcile: bank closing balance + deposits in transit - outstanding payments = adjusted balance; compare it to the ledger balance and show the difference with the arithmetic. Step 4: if it does not reconcile, list likely causes in order (transposed digits, duplicates, missing fees, wrong date) and what to check first. Output a sign-off checklist and a note template for unresolved items. Do not invent entries. Label every number and conclusion an estimate, because it is built purely from my inputs. This material is not a substitute for accounting, tax, legal or investment advice. Show the output to an accountant or financial adviser who works in [JURISDICTION] before relying on it.
