Virtual Coffee Chat Agenda and Question Bank
Make a 20-minute video chat useful for both people.
The Open buttons send the prompt text as currently shown below to that site only when you click. Fill in the placeholders first.
Plan a virtual coffee chat. The person's role and background: [THEIR_BACKGROUND]. My goal (career path, skill, field insight): [MY_GOAL]. Time available: [MINUTES]. Create a timed agenda: a two-minute warm start, a short summary of who I am, six questions ordered by priority (with two backups), time for them to ask me something, and a close. Write the questions so that they cannot be answered with yes or no, avoid asking for a job, and include one question about mistakes to avoid. Give me a note-taking template, a thank-you message with a specific takeaway, and a suggestion for offering help in return. Add tips for camera, sound and ending on time. Add a list of ten alternative questions for different goals (changing field, understanding a company, learning a skill) and a gentle way to close the chat early if it is not helpful. Add a plan for following up on any advice I receive after two weeks, reporting what I tried, because showing progress makes people more willing to help again.
